Blue Jays vs. Reds: One Last Game Before Toronto Turns to 2027

The Toronto Blue Jays host the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, September 27, at 3:07 p.m. ET. It is Toronto’s final game of the 2026 regular season and the closing day of Fan Appreciation Weekend at Rogers Centre.

The Blue Jays will not be heading to the postseason. That changes the focus of the finale. Instead of playoff scenarios, Sunday offers fans one last look at the current roster and a chance to consider what Toronto needs to improve before 2027.

What can Toronto take from the final game?

A season finale cannot erase months of results, but it can still be revealing. Watch how the Blue Jays approach their at-bats, whether younger players get opportunities and how the pitching staff is used. The final lineup may tell fans something about which players the club wants to evaluate before the offseason.

It is also a chance for Toronto to finish in front of its home crowd. Fan Appreciation Weekend gives the game a different feel from an ordinary late-season matchup, even with the playoff race over for the Jays.

The Reds have their own reasons to compete, so Toronto should not expect an easy afternoon. As with any final-day game, though, each team’s priorities and available players matter more than its name or its form over an entire month.

Three things to watch against the Reds

The starting pitchers: A confirmed pitching matchup is the best place to begin any game preview. Consider each starter’s recent workload and whether either club might limit innings.

The first few innings: Early scoring could shape how managers use their bullpens. If a starter exits quickly, the game may look very different from the one suggested by pregame pitching statistics.

The lineups: A late scratch or a day off for a regular starter can change the balance of the matchup. This is particularly important in the last game of the season, when teams may give other players an opportunity.

Blue Jays vs. Reds betting angles

Wait for the confirmed starters and batting orders before choosing a side. A Blue Jays moneyline bet should depend on Sunday’s actual matchup, not simply on home-field advantage or a desire to see Toronto end the year with a win.

The first-five-innings market may be useful if you have a strong view of the starting pitchers but less confidence in how either manager will use the bullpen. It also deserves a price check against the full-game line; the shorter market is not automatically the better value.

For the runs total, examine the two starters, the available hitters and likely bullpen usage. Avoid treating “season finale” as a reason by itself to expect either more or fewer runs.

A final look before the offseason

For Blue Jays fans, Sunday is both an ending and a starting point. The result will close Toronto’s 2026 season, while the performances and lineup choices may offer clues about the questions the club faces next. Whatever happens against Cincinnati, those questions will soon become the bigger story.
